Birkby Community Wildlife Garden AGM 2025
Birkby Community Wildlife Garden
Annual General Meeting 2025
Sunday 2nd March 2.00 p.m.
To all BCWG neighbours and local community:
It is that time of year again when BCWG holds its AGM and anyone from the local community who makes use of the garden is very welcome to join us on 2nd March. The address for where the meeting will be held will be notified on request to any interested party. We do need to have some idea in advance of how many might be coming to ensure sufficient seating arrangements.
The garden was established in 2017 when a group of enthusiastic local people turned what was a patch of scruffy and neglected Local Authority owned land into a more accessible and welcoming place for anyone to visit or pass through. This involved shifting a lot of waste that had accumulated over the years from fly-tipping, laying out footpaths, installing benches, and an ongoing planting scheme to carefully add to the woodland other small trees, bushes and flowering plants.
The garden has become a place for conserving some of our native wild plant species as well as supporting a variety of bird life while at the same time providing a quiet and pleasant spot for people to visit. If the community garden is to continue to prosper and not fall back into being a piece of scruffy waste land, we do need to ensure that it does actually have a community behind it. That is to say, enough local people who can give just a little of their time to help look after it. Offers of help and new ideas are therefore always welcome.
Holding an AGM is an essential requirement for groups like ours. You can show your support in may ways and choosing to come to the AGM is just one of them. We look forward to seeing some of you there or at one or other of our future activity sessions.
