To create a community orchard by planting fruit trees on an area of land on Lepton recreation ground and along the footpaths, and plant fruit trees in other areas across the Ward, with a view to improving the area further. Creating an orchard will improve the local ecological value of the recreation ground and surrounding area and enhance it by creating a habitat for bees and pollinators; it will work towards improving air quality in our area, be a local food source, provide opportunities for outdoor activity working in the natural environment which is known to benefit well-being and mental health as well as provide relaxing areas for just enjoying the natural environment.

Little Gomersal Community Association

The Association was formed by a group of people from within the village who had the idea of organising a village fayre to bring the community together. There has been a fayre every year, upt o Covid and it resumed in 2022. As well as bringing the community together for a social event, any funds raised are used primarily to pay for a Christmas tree which every year is bought from Kirklees council and placed in the center of the village for all to enjoy.

Made in Clayton West: The aims of the group are to connect people and play our part in helping to make our village & local area a better place to rest, work and play. We aim to connect people in our community by coming together, sharing skills, using talents, being creative, building connections and making a difference. We have an active facebook page and support the running of various events in the community including an annual yard sale and autumn ‘Light up the Woods’ event.

Milnsbridge Enhancement Group (MEG)

The group undertakes works to improve the environment and amenity value of Milnsbridge e.g. making a riverside walk; advances the appreciation of Milnsbridge by the public as a desirable area in which to live and work; and campaigns for resources to be spent in Milnsbridge by public and private bodies e.g. securing funding for a climbing boulder. We involve people in practical activities to improve the local environment e.g. litter picking, working with the local school on an art project; promote meetings, publications, exhibitions and research, and co-operate with other groups, both locally and nationally.

Mirfield in Bloom

Mirfield in Bloom is a community group dedicated to making Mirfield a nice place to live by involving as many people as possible. It isn’t just about flowers. It is pulling the community together to make our townsfolk love where they live. They’ve greened grey spaces, made neighbours into friends and encouraged communities from small children to senior citizens to work with each other. Graffiti & litter problems have been addressed; and the town has looked lovely. The object of the exercise was achieved when Mirfield in Bloom was given the honour of a Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service
